GENERAL POLICIES AT THE COOPERATIVA

Discrimination

All of our classes are open to everyone who wants to learn in a mutually respectful environment. We are dedicated to equality in all of its forms. We will not tolerate any forms of discrimination in any of our classes. We will not serve customers who intimidate or discriminate against others in our space.

HOLIDAYS

According to the article 74 of the official workers law in Mexico, we will not work during holidays that are marked as official. These are the specific dates for this year 2024: March 18th, May 1st, September 16th, October 1st, November 18th and December 25th.

If you are interested in taking classes on these dates, the teachers will be only available for private classes and the cost for these will be double that of regular ones.

Group Classes

As a cooperatively-run school, our business model is based on cooperation and shared space, so group classes are our focus; however, our greatest priority is giving you quality classes. We know it is important to offer classes that are at the student's level, so, if in any given week, we are unable to match you with other students at your same level who want to take group classes, we will make arrangements to offer you equivalent private classes or a combination of private grammar and group conversation classes.

We usually offer 2 hours of private classes if there is no conversational or grammar classes at your level, and 1 1/2 hours of private classes and 1 hour of conversation class if there is an appropriately-leveled conversation class but not a grammar class.

Please let us know if you have questions about any of this.

Current SPANISH Learning Program

  • We will send you an invoice through PayPal for $1100MXN for a deposit on the classes. All but $100MXN goes to the cost of the class. The rest of the classes should be paid in cash, in pesos. If you would like to pay through PayPal for the rest, we will change a 10% fee for processing. If you cancel with more than 72-hours notice, we can change the dates of study or convert to online classes with no charge. No fees are charged if all costs are paid in person.

  • The classes run by the week. Usually for weekly classes, there are no refunds for missed classes. However, we understand that this are unusual times and we all need to help each other to stop the spread of Covid-19. We insist that that students not attend classes if they have symptoms of Covid-19. We will offer some form of credit (in person or online) for all private classes missed due to illness during this time. Feel free to ask us more about this via email. With group classes, we will do what we can but it is not always possible to offer refunds as the price is lower because of the shared quality of the classes for the whole week.

DEPOSITS, CANCELLATIONS, REFUNDS, ETC.

We give all of our classes with the goal of teaching students Spanish to the best of our capabilities and try to make these classes affordable to all who want to study with us. As a business, we seek to make connections and develop long-standing relationships with our students and are not seeking something purely transactional.

The following are our general policies for the Cooperativa:

  • We no longer require the use of masks in our classes. Please be mindful, however of those who would prefer to be more cautious for whatever reason and try to practice some social distancing if there are students using them in classes or group activities.

  • For in-person classes, we insist that students inform us if they are sick with possible Covid-19 symptoms, and usual penalties for late cancellations will not be applied in these circumstances. For private in-person classes, we will issue credits for the classes missed. For group classes, we will do our best to offer some sort of credit, though it may not be completely possible due to the shared nature of group classes for the week.

  • Deposits for classes go to the cost of the class. If the deposit is made through PayPal, there will be a 8% processing fee for in-person classes.

  • Please see above for cancellation rules regarding the Current LEARNING Program about cancellations during the week.

  • For private (online) class cancellations, we ask that you give us at least 24-hour notice, or we will have to charge 50% of the usual price for the class. When classes are not canceled by the student and the student does not show up to classes, the class will be taken as given. The teacher will be online for 20 minutes, which will be the maximum tolerance. After that time, the class will be also taken as given.

  • For online monthly classes, we ask that you let us know the weekend before if you will not be able to take classes at your usual time so we can reschedule it that week. If you cancel with 24-hour notice, we will do our best to use the month to accommodate any missed classes. With less than 24-hour notice, we will do our best to add 20 minutes extra to any class you have available that month if possible.

  • There are no cancellations or schedule changes for any of our group classes on a daily basis. To sign up or cancel group classes, cancellations need to be made by 2:00 pm in Oaxaca on Saturdays, otherwise you will be charged for the week. For monthly (4 week) payments, those weeks run concurrently, and you cannot cancel or change the dates for the classes (let us know if an unforeseen emergency happens, and we will see what we can do to accommodate for remaining weeks).

  • If you do not notify us of a cancellation in private classes, we will wait for 20 minutes for the class the start (online or in person) and then charge you for the whole class.

  • We also have a general no refund policy for all of our classes. That said, we are always open to hearing feedback. If you have any concerns about your class, please do not hesitate to speak with us and we will do what we can within the limits of the classes you have paid for.

  • We also want our group classes to run smoothly for all students in the class. Please see our notes about maintaining a good group dynamic in our description of group classes. If for whatever reason we need to move you into a private class for this purpose (the private class would run for the basic equivalent of the money remaining from your payment that week), we reserve the right to do so for remainder of the week and either transfer the remaining money into equivalent private classes funds or return your money for subsequent weeks as if you only attended up to that week of class.
