In this workshop we will create an art object with the teacher Ady Pascual. You don’t need to be an expert, just let yourself explore with different techniques and textures!
Here at La Guarida we run both a language program as well as a community cultural space. We will put on community events and workshops led by artists and community members. We will talk about the history of what was once the entrance to the city of Oaxaca, in addition to its pre-colonial history; We will also talk about its current reality - the tour will end at the old railway museum (currently the Museo Infantil de Oaxaca)
We will have a guided visit to Espacio Matamoros 404 to learn about their composting toilets and their project, also we'll visit La Escuela para la Libertad de las Mujeres to learn more about their carpentry, electricity and plumbing workshops. You will listen to a brief explanation of their project in Oaxaca - we'll be meeting at La Guarida. Don't miss this opportunity to know about these fantastic places in the city!
We will have our cooking workshop. This time the teacher will hare an Oaxacan recipe and teach us how to cook with wood, then we will share the table with all our students.
We will visit Santa María Ixcotel and we will talk about the history of its mine and how, from its stones, a large part of the first buildings of the colonial city were built.
Guided by Niza Victoria; we will learn some basics of embroidery, and create our own work with needle, thread and photos!
In this tour we will go to the south part of downtown and we will get to know the neighborhood of Consolación and La China, in addition to learning more about shopping dynamics.
We will learn how to dance some bailes latinos such as Salsa, Cumbia or Merengue with teacher Cecilia.
Come with us to walk around downtown recognizing the medicinal plants, fruit trees and trees that have historical value for La ciudad de Oaxaca.
We will have our traditional cooking workshop but with an special twist. This time we will prepare traditional tamales de mole and will share the table with all our students.
Come to drink, eat and see what the locals have for you!
Local vendors and small businesses will be selling their creations. We will also have a second-hand clothing sale to raise funds for La Comedora Comunitaria Nkä'äymyujkëmë.

Full of satire, originality and a lot of death, the literary Calavera or Calaverita is one of the most important literary traditions of our Mexico. This traditional composition is made with verse and rhyme.
You will learn how to write a Calaverita and create one by your own.
